sundays 179 squatters revisited Meeting point: Architekturzentrum Wien - Shop sundays: Sunday 8 October 2006, 1:45pm - 6pm Tickets: EUR 16,00 / Students EUR 11,50 To commemorate the abandonment of the “Arena” 30 years ago, Dieter Schrage (former committee member of the Arena-squatters) leads a trip down memory lane and to one of the sites of Vienna’s subcultures that was subdued by force. * 179-01 starting at the “Arena”... * 179-02 ... on to the former autonomous cultural center in Gassergasse (“Gaga,” Vienna 5th district, 1981-1983) which was stormed and razed by the police in 1983 * 179-03 ... and on to the former countercultural housing commune Aegidi/Spalowskygasse (“Aegidi/Spalo,” Vienna 6th district, 1981-1988). * 179-04 To avoid a potentially depressing ending, the commemorative tour will finish up in the “Ammerlinghaus” bar. After it was squatted in the summer of 1975, the “Ammerlinghaus” was dedicated as a cultural center on Spittelberg in 1978 and has retained its socio-cultural significance to this day.
