The inhabitants' right to intimacy and independence lies at the centre of Bernard Rudofsky’s creative work and contrasts directly with a way of living that is dictated from outside.
For him the individual with his or her specific living requirements always formed the focal point. In Rudofsky’s own house, La Casa near Frigiliana in southern Spain (1969-71), those characteristics are manifested that were also of importance to Anton Schweighofer or Roland Rainer: the spatial disposition in the landscape, a domestic courtyard in front of the house, formal elements borrowed from traditional building, and intimacy for the residents.
sundays leads us through the exhibition in the Az W that offers the first examination of the entire work of the cosmopolitan architect, critic, and cultural theorist Bernard Rudofsky (1905-1988), and then to an example of the work of one of the Austrian architects quoted in this context .
