CD Rom Language: English / German 2000, Vienna Authors: Otto Kapfinger, Walter Zschokke, Bettina Schlorhaufer Editors: Althaler + Oblasser Systems: Windows / Mac
The 'new austrian architecture' CD-ROM was created to accompany the New Austrian Architecture exhibit which took place at the Vienna Ringtower from February 24 to April 16, 1999.
Developed as a supplement to the exhibit, the CD-ROM presents 50 examples of Austrian architecture of the last five years. Otto Kapfinger provided the editorial which includes texts by Walter Zschokke and Bettina Schlorhaufer, newspaper clippings, articles from various architectural journals, as well as plans and pictures of each project.
Seven areas of life - housing, community, education, production, enjoyment, provision, movement, and even an eighth area - discussion of architectural ideas - provide the framework for the CD-ROM.
A combination of pictures, sound effects, narration, video sequences, interactive panoramic images and links to Austrian architecture websites are all presented on a medium which offers an overview of emerging Austrian architects. The program is easy to use, thoroughly researched and attractively presented.
The objective of the CD-ROM is to offer architectural criticism with a high level of sophistication while remaining approachable to a wide audience. The CD-ROM is dedicated to the aspect of communicating architectural concepts and is meant to encourage architectural dialogue. Whether used as a learning tool for educational purposes, as a source of reference for private use or as a multi-faceted presentation medium, the CD-ROM offers an up-to-date overview of recent Austrian architecture.
