Das beste Haus Architekturpreis 2007
• The jury's selection of the 27 most attractive single-family houses from 118 submissions
• Award ceremony on Wednesday 25 April at 7pm at the Architekturzentrum Wien
Online voting: All of the nominated objects are shown and can be voted for online in a public vote at www.dasbestehaus.at. Independent of the jury's selection – and without influencing the outcome of the architecture competition – everybody is welcome to make their own impression of the diversity of the shortlisted houses. The website also provides an opportunity to vote online for your own personal favourite as the most attractive house in the country. The public's favourite will also be ascertained at the end.
-> online voting The deadline for online votes is 24 April 2007.
All participants also take part in a prize-draw with architecture to browse or help you design to be won (in the form of nine architecture books, or nine dream house designers in 3D) – i.e. there will be one winner among the online voters from each federal state in the country!
The Bausparkasse of the österreichischen Sparkassen is looking for the best family home in Austria. A competition organised in cooperation with the Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur and the Architekturzentrum Wien, realised in collaboration with the country's regional architecture institutions. As well as classical detached houses, extensions, conversions or additional storeys for existing single-family houses were also eligible for nomination.
Prizes are being awarded to exceptional examples of everyday architecture: for new interpretations of traditional forms of building and types of house, for the intelligent use of materials, the responsible treatment of the surrounding landscape via optimised energy concepts, or for a building's sensual or tactile qualities. Nominations were sought for homes that make a positive contribution to the furtherance of domestic architecture and culture.
Entries have been submitted from all over Austria, providing a cross-section of the young Austrian architecture scene complete with its inherent diversity and differences.
9 Federal States – 9 Winning Houses The jury of experts, chaired by Dietmar STEINER, director of the Architekturzentrum Wien, was comprised of a representative from each of the nine architecture institutions in the different federal states of Austria: Erich KUGLER (Architektur Raum Burgenland), Dietmar MÜLLER (Napoleonstadl, Kärntens Haus der Architektur, Carinthia), Marcus NIETSCHKE (ORTE Architekturnetzwerk Niederösterreich, Lower Austria), Klaus LEITNER (Architekturforum Oberösterreich, Upper Austria), Karl MEINHART (Initiative Architektur Salzburg), Markus BOGENSBERGER (Haus der Architektur Graz, Styria), Erich WUCHERER (architektur und tirol, Tyrol) and Geli SALZMANN (VAI Vorarlberger Architekturinstitut).
In a two-stage selection process 27 single-family houses were selected from the 118 projects entered into the competition. The prize-winning entries from each federal state are to be announced and receive their awards at the Architekturzentrum Wien, Museumsquarter, Vienna on 25 April 2007 at 7pm.
