The Az W is expanding its radius of activity and dedicating more attention on a permanent basis from now on to the diverse spectrum of contemporary architecture in Austria. As the Austrian architecture museum, the Az W is currently observing its obligation to 'present architecture' with the long-running introspective exhibition a_show, with major trend-setting international exhibitions alternating in the Alte Halle. What has until now been painfully absent, though, was a permanent experimental forum for this specifically 'Austrian architecture' – which could only be provided sporadically at Halle F3 within the confines of the location in the MQ.
With the new exhibition space at 35 Flachgasse in the 15th District, only minutes away from the Az W by public transport with the U3, the Architekturzentrum Wien has acquired a new venue for presentations capable of reacting spontaneously to exciting developments in Austrian architecture while also being a space for experiments or simply a platform for self-presentations. In April 2007 the Az W is launching a new series of four exhibitions per year at the Az West. With a Call for Papers, architects, groups and curators are now welcome to submit proposals for the venue and to present their concepts addressing topical architecture-related issues in Austria.
CALL FOR PAPERS Deadline: June 15, 2007 !
The Az West is conceived as an open forum, to provide architecture producers and architecture mediators with a platform where they can address current discussions of contemporary Austrian architecture and represent their own positions. Four exhibitions are scheduled per year, each to run for 8 weeks. Projects for the 110 square metre exhibition space can be submitted at any time – the selection will be made twice annually. Anybody interested in submitting a proposal for the Az West should send the following details along with other relevant information to the Architekturzentrum Wien:
- Title and a brief project outline/concept - Technical details, size and scope of the exhibition, description of the exponents, technical requirements - Cost listing
The Az W will presume that all exponents have been authored and authorised for inclusion by the applicants themselves, unless otherwise expressly stated.
In addition, the Architekturzentrum Wien undertakes to provide or cover the cost of the following: - Rent for the venue, running costs, cleaning - Logistical and material support for the display, furniture and technical equipment - Logistical and material support for the installation and dismantling of the exhibition - Exhibition staff - Opening - Announcement of the exhibition in the Az W Programme Folder, on the Az W website, and in Newsletter - Press and publicity work - Documentation of the exhibition in the Az W journal 'Hintergrund'
