Cities like Istanbul, Athens, Thessaloniki, Warna, Skopje, Plovdiv, Zagreb or Belgrade are included in the region. Metternich even thought that the Balkans began on Rennweg in Vienna-Landstrasse. To accompany the exhibition 'Balkanology. New Architecture and Urban Phenomena in Southeast Europe' at the Architekturzentrum Wien, the Az W is holding a student competition on the topic.

New Architecture and Urban Phenomena in Southeast Europe' and the Architekturzentrum Wien should be mentioned (i.e. advertised).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION With the exhibitions 'Bogdan Bogdanović. The Doomed Architect' and 'Balkanology. New Architecture and Urban Phenomena in Southeast Europe', the Architekturzentrum Wien has a focus on southeast Europe in 2009. The three best advertising clips selected by a jury of experts are to be shown in arthouse cinemas in Vienna for six weeks (9.10 – 19.11.09) to publicise the exhibition 'Balkanology' at the Az W.
Exhibition Balkanology. New Architecture and urban Phenomena in Southeast europE 22.10.09 – 18.01.10 With the dissolution of the socialist economic system in former Yugoslavia and Albania informal building is emerging in the western Balkans that essentially represents an entirely new form of urbanisation. This poses the question as to the extent to which the pattern of these urban remodellings indicates a future development of the European town. The exhibition presents approaches taken by architects, urbanists and activists to these rapid processes of urban transformation, exemplified by projects in Belgrade, Zagreb, Kotor, Prishtina and Tirana. The exceptional but little known buildings of modern socialist Yugoslavia are positioned in a dialogue with these rapid processes of urban transformation.
The clips must contain the following: The word 'Exhibition' + the title of the exhibition: Balkanology. New Architecture and Urban Phenomena in Southeast Europe The duration of the exhibition: 22.10.09 – 18.01.10 www.azw.at the Az W logo name/s of the producer/s
