Az W Photo Award 2012

The Az W Photo Award was successfully held this year for the third time. The participants were asked to look for the traces of green in the city. This time the spring exhibition "Hands-On Urbanism 1850 - 2012. The Right to Green" (15.03. – 25.06.2012) provided the inspiration for the chosen theme.

All entries that arrived in the Architekturzentrum Wien before 26 March 2012 were eligible. The jury was made up of Johannes Faber (Galerie Faber), Carl Aigner (Director of the Landesmuseum Niederösterreich and founding editor of EIKON – International Magazine for Photography and Media Art),as well as members of the Az W.

Over 140 entries from amateur and professional photographes from Austria and abroad display a rich diversity of approaches to the theme of green in the city. The motifs captured are ironic, documentary and, in several cases, also a little romantic. From this flood of very different images and moods the jury unanimously selected the two main prize winners, who convinced through their understated approach and poetic lightness. Alongside the main prize winners 11 further shortlisted entries can be seen in the exhibition.
