With: Karl Glotter, KoseLicka, Eva Afhus, Peter Walker Moderation: Ingrid Schegk Surface In Space A series of lectures in collaboration with Ebenseer Betonwerke and Zement + Beton. "Surface In Space" is presenting realised or planned projects for the design of contemporary public space by architects around the world on four different evenings. The focus of the series of lectures is on planning strategies and designs relating to urban space, landscaping and gardens, for village space and small towns as well as on the periphery of urban zones. The Green Space Tuesday, April 16, 2002, 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the Architekturzentrum Wien, Podium "Green Space" is a cultural construct: invented nature, imaginary social topes or ideological stage. The design of green space is being confronted with having to fulfil social and environmental-political demands, operating as a medium of representation, contriving landscapes for cultures focused on recreation and events, or opening up outdoor space. "Green Space" runs in many different constellations through all areas, private and public, and is accordingly a manifestation of specific aesthetics, codes and social functions. The projects being presented outline excerpt-like contexts, radiuses of action and strategies in contemporary landscape and garden architecture from Vienna via Switzerland to as far afield as the USA. The landscape architects and planners invited present their own stance to expanding the term 'green space' or are introducing new approaches to the theme. Greeting: Dietmar M.
