Catalogue: The exhibition catalog reviews the genesis of ACI as institution and project. It is a cooperation of the Architekturzentrum Wien and the Austrian Cultural Institute New York.

How it all begann:

1992:
Competition for a new Austrian Cultural Institute in New York.
Among the 226 admitted design entries, an international jury, consisting of:

The winner is Raimund Abraham.

1993:
Construction is scheduled to begin

1995:
Scheduled completion

1998: In December 1998 ground was broken in New York and construction of the building began. In June 2000 Raimund Abraham's project in central Manhattan will finally have been carried out.

The current project phase can now be seen in Vienna.
The Architekturzentrum Wien has the opportunity of exhibiting the reviewed design of the new Austrian Cultural Institute New York as part of its collection. The exhibition is a comprehensive show of working and detail plans and a 6 meter high model was especially built for this occasion.

Panel discussion
The inauguration will be followed by a panel discussion entitled "Austria in Manhattan?" in Hall P1 at Architekturzentrum Wien at around 8:30 p.m. What will become of the Cultural Institute after completion?
