Margherita Spiluttini Photo Archive Margherita Spiluttini's archive is one of the most significant collections of photographs of architectural production in Austria from 1980 to 2005. On behalf of eminent architects and theorists, Spiluttini has documented over 4000 buildings and objects over the past 35 years. In 2015 Margarita Spiluttini's archive became part of the Architekturzentrum Wien Collection. Her complete oeuvre now extends the stock of the Az W Collection with an essential feature providing a new focus for the collection, that of architectural photography. From the outset Margherita Spiluttini developed a precise, independent visual language. She is distinguished by a deeply reflected handling of her media — architecture and photography. Spiluttini continually crosses the boundaries between applied and artistic photography. "Architecture is always made by people, so it also says something about people" (Margherita Spiluttini). Her images have been published regularly in journals and magazines, books and exhibitions. The focus of her work is on the documentation of contemporary architecture. This has often been accompanied by studies on themes of significance to urban planning and anonymous architecture, as well as engaging with historical buildings, public art and the documentation of exhibitions. In addition, over the years she has pursued numerous independent photo projects, including the 'Beyond Nature' (Nach der Natur) series showing structural interventions in the Alpine landscape. Alongside a focus on Vienna and surroundings, Spiluttini has also been very active in West Austria, and above all on international engagements, such as in Switzerland during her long collaboration with the office of architects Herzog & de Meuron. She has completed more than 100,000 photographs over the course of the years, primarily as large format sheet film slides. These comprise the Spiluttini Archive, with a comprehensive index and technical specifications for the objects shown.
