Cooperation 2015: Kulturtransfer Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur
How far can we get?

The Architekturzentrum Wien and the association balance are starting a mapping action with the wheelchair under the motto “how far can we get?”

Like a kind of board game an “obstacle course with wheelchairs” begins that focuses on two destinations, Vienna’s new Main Station and the Museumsquartier. Different ways of reaching these destinations are chosen. The experiences gained during the journeys are compiled and then entered on a printed map.
Having arrived at the respective goal a city tour begins that takes a look at the design aspects of the barrier-free places.

Is barrier-freedom the new universal design? Does barrier freedom give people in wheelchairs the means for independence and is spontaneity possible?

In the concluding stage the results are entered on the online platform
http://wheelmap.org/about/ by and with those who attend the Tagesstrukturen (day work centres) to make them accessible to users of the portal. The experiences, answers and any questions that arise in public space were presented at the concluding event on Tues. 26.05.2015 in the library of the Az W.
